The International Liquid Sound Festival – for the fifth time in succession and as unique as ever. Underwater art for all the senses, round the clock, day and night, awake and dreaming. Presentations on dry land and performances in the water – live-experiences with sound, light, video, dance, whale and water art from around the world. A delight for bathing lovers from near and far – and deep nights are free!
Bathing in the Gesamtkunstwerk
Ever since the New York Times recounted their visit to the "water-filled concert hall", the Toskana Therme thermal baths in Bad Sulza and Bad Schandau and the Liquid Sound concept have acquired international fame. In addition to the regular full-moon underwater concerts, once a year we create a special opportunity to experience the unique combination of water and culture: the Liquid Sound Festival. For the fifth time in succession, multimedia artists and friends of whale song will present a new and compelling programme and invite the bathing public to bathe in the Gesamtkunstwerk of sound and performances above and below the water, with light and video projections through the day and through the night.
New in Bad Sulza: on Friday from 3 p.m. onwards, there will be a 'dry-land' introduction in the conference center with lectures on related aspects to the festival: informative contributions on art and sound in water, on the acoustic world of the whales and the scientific and therapeutic aspects of liquid sound.

- 7 p.m. Changing images and projections throughout the Toskana Therme
The Toskana Therme Bad Schandau has two unique visual attractions – the fine spray screen next to the outdoor pool and the dome projection in the Liquid Sound Temple. Both are used to full effect during the festival. The entire thermal baths will themselves be 'bathed' in new light and colour. With projections from The Night Lab www.tnl.de and Tina Zimmermann, who has composed special water-image-worlds especially for us.
- 8 p.m. Dance performance:
'Devi Dance Company'. Beate Gatscha and Madlen Werner with their exhilarating mixture of Bollywood, indian Kathak-dance and sword and oriental dance – all at the waters' edge.
www.beate-gatscha.de, www.devi-dance.de.
Beate Gatscha and Madlen Werner have a long history in classical Indian Kathak-dance and Bollywood-dance, the modern dance of Indian films. They also integrate elements from oriental dance, Indian martial arts and modern dance. They complement traditional dance and Bollywood hits with their own choreographies and experiments in expressive dance and cultural cross-over – exciting entertainment with style and class.
- Between the dance performance two sound masters from Dresden, "FM Circus" and "[micro:form]" provide refined relaxed excitement on the turntables.
- The mysterious pseudonym [micro:form] stands for a musician with a broad musical horizon. His performances in Germany's music and club scene are legendary and he is known under many guises both as a DJ and as radio play producer – Stachy, hofuku, sochi.
The Dresden-based artists has put together a special live-concept tailored to the underwater world of the Toskana Therme Bad Schandau. With the laptop as central musical instrument, he will integrate the sounds of the Toskana Therme into the musical performance.
- The multi-talented Live Act FM Circus, also from Dresden, will demonstrate his impressive skills as an underwater specialist. Atmospheric sounds meet gentle beats unfurling into a night-time underwater sonar experience.

Holger Mantey and Gert Anklam began their cooperation in Autumn 2003 in the WDR radio play "Die dunkle Stunde der Serenissima" (The dark hour of Serenissima), based on a thriller by Donna Leon. Their special relationship developed during their search for expressive soundscapes to accompany the play, and brought forth the spark of an idea for a collage-like concert programme. They weave together sound recordings collected from concerts and their travels India and Africa with their own live music to form an aural journey. Bathers are invited to be "all ear" and lie back and immerse themselves in a world of stories, fantasies and dreams from afar. www.tobeohr.de
