Toskana Therme - New impulses in bathing culture
Since its opening on the 24th November 1999, the Toskana Therme in Thuringian Bad Sulza has sparked new impulses in the bathing and wellness scene, attracting visitors from far and wide to the village of Bad Sulza and its 3300-inhabitants. Its spectacular architecture and the specially developed multimedia technology "Liquid Sound®" have attracted international attention. "Liquid Sound® in der Toskana des Ostens" was a registered EXPO 2000 worldwide project. |

The concept of "bathing in light and music" is
integral to the entire Toskana Therme® and differentiates it from
conventional thermal baths. Its sailing roof spans over a series of terraced
colourfully lit pools, and also encompasses a selection of different
saunas, health and wellness facilities and a congress centre and events
hall. The separate Liquid Sound® Temple is especially dedicated to
the enjoyment of underwater music and light effects - bathing in light
and music!

All pools are supplied with local saline waters, healing
waters from underground Triassic aquifers directly beneath the Toskana
Therme®. Bathers relax in waters of between 32 and 35 °C. The 3-5%
saline concentration in the water enable one to relax and float weightlessly
in water. Five of the seven pools are equipped with Liquid Sound® systems
and accompanying lighting. The entire lighting system of the Therme is
integrated into the Liquid Sound concept.

In addition to regular bathing activities, the Toskana
Therme® also offers a range of special wellness programmes including "Aqua
Wellness" bodywork in water. In addition regular live concerts take
place in the Therme, transforming it into a concert hall, the water as
the stage. The very first production, the underwater musical "Oceanderthal" premiered
on the 27th November 1999. Based upon a text by Micky Remann, the inventor
of Liquid Sound®, the Berlin musicians from Kirit & the Moving
Elements transformed the aquatic fable into a musical extravaganza in which
musicians and dancers took over the Therme and the pools. For the second
part of the performance, the bathers were invited into the water.
